BRIT abroad Wayne Barling matted this warrior mirror carp of 64 lb on his first trip to a lake in the mountains.
France carp fishing specialist Wayne, who run a carp tackle and bait business in the country, told Angler’s Mail how his success came after scary storm.
Wayne said: “This particular part of southern France holds its temperatures longer.
“My pal Nico had a 56 lb wild common, followed shortly after by a
30 lb mirror.
“A huge electrical storm was very frightening, but we survived and my bite came along at 4am.
“As I headed out, I knew that the fish was heading towards me. Using braided line, I knew that the hook hold wasn’t good, as I could feel it moving.
“For some strange reason, whether it be past experiences, I knew the fish could come off at any minute.
“As it surfaced, it took a couple of dives, but I could tell that it was close to netting.
“I had no idea how big it was because I was trying not to put any weight on the rod. It was more like teasing it to the top.
“When it did go in the net, the hook fell out, as I suspected.
“I was sitting, soaking wet and cold, but with a sense of achievement that only sitting in mud can give you,” grinned 44-year-old Wayne.
Wayne scored his big France carp fishing success on salt-cured Red Spicy Fish boilies from Urban Bait. He runs online French shop Wild Carp Tackle and Bait.
